Unique Small Business Ideas

The idea of running your own small business is appealing to many people on many levels. If you went through your entire life and got along with every boss that you ever had, then you would probably be the first person to do so. So, if you have quality small business ideas, then running your own business would have the benefit of never having to deal with a boss you hate.

You also have the final say for how everything will run in your business. If you have profitable small business ideas, you can run a business the way you want to. More and more unique small business ideas are finding success in today’s market, so if you have always had an idea, but possibly thought it might be to obscure, you should at least give it a try. It is nearly impossible to tell what will catch on and become profitable. You might have thought it would be impossible to sell millions of goofy looking shoes made out of rubber that make your feet smell, but Crocs have become pretty successful. Small business ideas come in many forms, and they don’t even have to be that great of ideas, just promoted well. There are companies out there selling bottled water for $40 a bottle and water is still free at drinking fountains all over the planet. If you make a product seem essential or exclusive, you can get people to buy it, plain and simple. Take a look at one of the most unlikely small business ideas and tell me that almost anything can’t be sold.

The energy drink market has exploded with hundreds of different sugary tasting beverages for people who need a blast of energy or just want to feel their limbs shaking for no apparent reasons. One of the companies to capitalize on this trend was Go Fast. Troy Widgery is a former champion skydiver and entrepreneur who founded Go Fast in 1992. Widgery’s latest fascination is a Jetson’s-esque jet pack. He founded JetPack International and has spent the past two years and $1 million attempting to create a jet pack that would be available to consumers and allow them to fly for up to nine minutes. This has to be one of the most unique small business ideas and the strange thing is that it is actually feasible.

Only 11 people have ever piloted these jet packs, but Widgery is looking to sell these jet packs to the public at a cool $200,000, with each flight costing about $20 in fuel. Bell Aerosystems was the first company to manufacture a jet pack in 1961, but it flew for only 23 seconds and was not commercially available. Widgery has the lofty goal that this most unique of small business ideas will top sales of $30 million by the year 2010.

The company is already turning a profit based on the prototype model that flies for 45 second. Pilot Eric Scott grosses $25,000 a flight through demonstrations all over the globe. Scott has had a rough time during test flights over the past two years, blowing out his knee six times, having reconstructive surgery on his shoulder after a rough landing, and the loss of seven pairs of tennis shoes after early prototypes set them o fire.

The Boom of Online Business

I remember when business started going online. You could almost feel the buzz and the impending shift. At first it was a special feature for a business to have a web site, then it was commonplace for a company to have a web site, and now, it is almost an absolute necessity. Online business is where it is at, whether you are a major corporation like Microsoft® or Exxon, or you are selling homemade salsa or purses, you almost need to be online. Not to mention all the major industries that are solely online businesses that have erupted beyond belief, such as Amazon.com and Google.com.

Even newspapers have pumped up their online editions to the point that the paper editions have been moved to the back burner. I know this from working in the newspaper industry for years. Paper is floundering and the paperless world is thriving. The news is a powerful business and with it becoming such a strong online business, I believe it creates an environment that is beneficial for the general public. Generally with printed editions, people only get access to the information that the editors have deemed important enough for them to run in that day’s paper, but with newspapers as an online business, all the news that is available is just about available to you. There are even web sites that specialize in particular types of news and particular angles on news, whether you are interested in celebrity news or in liberal perspectives to national and international news, it is all possible now with the online business of newspapers.

But that is just a drop in the bucket of what online business has done to our lifestyles. Think about shopping. Nothing for me has changed from the online business boom as much as the way that I shop has. Christmas shopping has literally become so much less annoying because I never have to step foot into a mall anymore. And there is no more going from shop to shop hunting for the right product because this branch doesn’t have it, but that branch has it. Online stores will show you every product available, and if you don’t live near where the present needs to end up, you can have it delivered directly to its destination without you having to take an extra trip to the post office or package carrier. And these companies will often gift wrap the present for you, too! Not to mention that shopping online creates competition, which allows you, the consumer, to find the best deal on whatever you are trying to buy.

Online business has revolutionized the way we live our lives. Just about every time you log on to the Web, you are supporting online businesses and making the trend what it is. I think it is a great way to give people the ability to control what they want and what they are interested in learning about. Online businesses give the power back to the people more than ever before.

Women’s Business Suits Can Make You Look Good!

Women’s business suits used to come with the stigma of emasculating the women wearing them. Today however, things are shaping up and giving women a better shape. Dressing for work doesn’t have to mean sacrificing your sense of style or femininity. Before going out to the store and looking through all the women’s business suits, first decide what kind of suit you are interested in buying. Do you want skirts, pants or both? Both choices are suitable business attire. So, with that it mind, let’s get to it and talk a little about women’s business suits that are skirts.

 Skirts

A classic skirted business suit is one of the best choices for women when going on an interview. The traditional skirt suit is most often appropriate in such formal business settings. Try to avoid trendy or inappropriate styles, bright colors and patterned fabrics. Keep the skirt knee-length or longer,  a rule of thumb to follow is: When you sit, the skirt should cover your thighs.

In business, the way you present yourself is how people percieve you. With this in mind, remember what type of image you want to convey when choosing your suit. Pay attention to the fabric of the suit, see if it wrinkles by crumpling it in your hand. If it stays scrunched or wrinkled, it’s not the suit for you because it will do the same when you wear it and when you are sitting all day. Avoid fabrics that will look rumpled half way through your day. Avoid high polyester blends when possible. Consider instead: high-quality worsted wool, wool blend or linen.

Pants

Women’s business suits are also available as pant suits. When choosing a pant suit, consider the following pant styles: pleated, flat-front and cuffed. Pleated pants are more dressy, they have pleats running up the legs and do require a little maintenance and work with an iron before dressing. Flat-front pants will make you legs look longer and give you an overall slimming effect. Cuffed pants are a more formal look and are appropraite for meetings, interviews etc. Women’s business suits need to fit well. You could buy great pants, but if they don’t fit well, you will not look put together. When looking through women’s business suits make sure someone can help you get the perfect fit, and if you can’t find that fit in the store, alter the garments to fit your body.

Fit

How should women’s business suits fit? When you try on the jacket for a business suit, be sure it fits properly. To many, poor fitting clothes translate as  sloppy and unkempt. Note that the collar of the jacket should lay flat against the back of your neck. The shoulders should not look too boxy or sloped, meaning no large shoulder pads, and the sleeve length should come to rest about 5 inches above the tip of your thumb.

Know which body type you are, petite, misses, tall or plus size, and think about creating a wardrope rather than just buying random pieces. If you buy different women’s business suits that compliment each other, you will have a wider array of clothing to choose from.

So, good luck shopping ladies, keep this information in mind and remember to have fun with the process!

Starting an eBay® Business Can Net Some Easy Cash

Let’s say you have a product you want to sell. It could be something basic, something common, something you have a lot of or something you created by yourself. If you believe that you can make some money selling this product, you might want to start a business in order to sell it. There are a few different ways you could try to sell your product or products.

The traditional route would be to buy a store. You can search for the right sized property in the right area to attract the proper clientele. You will then have to buy all the supplies and furnishings to make your store functional and appealing. Then hire employees, find advertising, get all your finances straight, and promote yourself. You could do that in order to appeal to your local community and sell your product to them, or you could think about starting an eBay business.

Starting an eBay business is almost as easy as setting up an e-mail account or a profile to shop online. You can perform all the steps of starting an eBay business on your computer, from the comfort of your home. Create a profile, provide some background information, post contact information, and post pictures and descriptions of your items. Your business will then be available to the entire online community, other wise known as anyone who has an Internet connection.

You can have plenty of success with the traditional business model of opening your own store, but the potential for making money online is so much greater. There is no limit to what type of customer you will be able to attract. If you are starting an eBay business, you will no longer have geographic limitations on your customer base. People from all over the globe will be able to purchase items from you rather than just those willing to travel to your location.

By starting an eBay business, you can also benefit from the unique auction method of selling. If you have a desirable product, the selling price of that product could be driven up far past the price you might set in a retail store. The great thing about this process is that you don’t even have to do anything extra. Just post the item and hope that competition will fuel extra profit for you.

Another great aspect of starting an eBay business is that you could easily sell items online and open your own store. Your eBay store can drive people to your physical location as well as provide a way for people outside of your area. An eBay business is much easier to maintain than a normal business. There are no employees to stay on top of, no store repairs to worry about and no worry about attracting enough customers. Plenty of people use eBay every day and all you need to do is post your products for auction. Let your eBay store pull in the money for you, or use it as a compliment to your already existing business.

eBay@reg; Shopping Versus Real Shopping

I caved. I never thought I would participate in eBay shopping. I didn’t really want to deal with making bids, tracking the progress of a potential sale, or competing with other people. First, I am too competitive, and it is very possible, if not likely, that I will overpay for something just so someone else doesn’t get what I want. Second, when I am trying to buy something, I want to buy it and have it immediately as opposed to hoping that I will be able to buy it in a couple days. But then I was looking for a deal on a new snowboard by browsing web sites. I decided to check out this eBay madness and was shocked when I found the snowboard I was looking for, priced $250 less than any other site. I couldn’t pass on the potential to get this product at such a discount and before I knew it, I was eBay shopping.

I created my profile and was in the mix for a discounted snowboard. It turns out that eBay shopping is easier than I thought. Placing an eBay bid is very easy and creating the profile was pretty easy, as well. I tracked my potential purchase for a day or two and the price did climb. As I competed with other people it drove the price up and my dream of getting a really nice snowboard at half price slowly died. My competitive nature came in to play, and I was determined to get this snowboard. In the end I won the bid and ended up paying less than any other site was selling the board for, even after the shipping costs. I certainly paid a lot less than I would have at a retail store.

There were also the other conveniences of eBay shopping. I did it all from my house and each time I had to check in on the status, it took about five minutes. I was able to accomplish several other chores rather than taking a day to travel to several different stores. eBay shopping was done entirely from my computer and then my board was delivered to me within a couple of days. And one of the most surprising aspects of my eBay shopping experience was the selection. I found the board I wanted in several different sizes, and I even found the board in my size from several different sellers. The selection was so much larger than any of the web sites that specialized in selling snowboards. I essentially bought from a private dealer of the brand of snowboard I wanted and did it from my home. I’m not ready to fully endorse the site, but I was pleasantly surprised with how well my eBay shopping experience went.

I haven’t bought anything on eBay since, but I will occasionally check the site when I am looking for something at a discount. I don’t have to drive all over town and deal with the relatively limited selection and high prices at the quality snowboarding stores that I go to in order to find quality products. I was amazed at the amount of quality snowboards for sale on eBay, and it’s a very nice alternative to traditional shopping.
